A trending Facebook post spread like wildfire on social media that shows alleged cop brutality. In the post, a woman identified as Wendy Reyes recalled the traumatic incident when she was allegedly hit in the face not once, but twice by Police Officer 3 Rizal Belmonte with the aid of a man named Esmael Gayak. The controversial post was featured in Facebook page ‘All About the Philippines’.

In the said post, Reyes said that she had a dispute with PO3 Belmonte when she asked him to turn off the bright lights in his motorcycle at 1 AM. According to Reyes, she asked politely but the cop mocked her as he turned it even brighter and laughed with Gayak. To make her point clearer, Reyes approached the two men to ask again.

It was at this point when the cop suddenly turned aggressive.

PO3 Belmonte allegedly hit Reyes square in the face, which caused her to fall on the pavement. She regained her balance with the help of a friend, but she claimed that Reyes hit her again. Instead of helping her, Gayak even purposely fell on top of her while she was crying. In the photos, she showed her bruised face and the certificate of her medico-legal.

The cop then allegedly went to his motorcycle to retrieve his firearm, which he pointed to Wendy and threatened to kill her. According to Reyes, after PO3 Belmonte fired one round, she immediately rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center. She posted the incident on Facebook to ask help from PNP Chief Ronaldo de la Rosa.

“Dapat po mawala sa hanay ng kapulisan nyo ang ganyan klaseng pulis. Nanakit ng babae at nagpapaputok ng baril. Abusong pulis. Nagtatago po si Rizal Belmonte ngayon, hindi po sya nadakip. Tulungan nyo po ako makamit ang [hustisya] nangyari sakin.”

On the other hand, Reyes’ post garnered mixed reactions from people on social media. Most of them cried for justice for the horrifying incident and condemned police brutality. Meanwhile, some people decided to give PO3 Belmonte the benefit of the doubt until they’ve heard his side of the story.
